I find Greek mythology so interesting, and love learning more about it。 I found Liv’s podcast which is amazing so when she came out with this book I had to buy it! This review is coming late as I’ve just been picking away at it since it’s not a story but a handbook to the gods, goddesses, heros and more, and it’s great to just pick it up and read a few entries at a time when I would like a break from other books I have on the go。 She’s great at providing the “need to know” info on all of these c I find Greek mythology so interesting, and love learning more about it。 I found Liv’s podcast which is amazing so when she came out with this book I had to buy it! Wonderful, educational and engaging。 The illustrations were gorgeous too。

The illustrations are gorgeous and the myths are classic with a cute spin。 Over use of exclamation points though。

4。5Awesome handbook of Greek Mythology。 I was familiar with a few legends, heroes, and gods but this book was super easy to follow。 The only hiccup I found was that multiple entries referred to others but that makes sense because so many of the myths are intertwined with others。 I just got a bit confused and had to flip through the book to remind myself who was who and what they did。 Other than that, super fast read that is packed with information and awesome illustrations。

"Greek Mythology: The Gods, Goddesses, and Heroes Handbook" is a fun introduction to the greek pantheon and some of its most important players。 The illustrations in this book are great and I liked the author's sense of humor。 The reason I'm only giving it three stars is that there were some repetitions that could have been safely left out in a book this length and that it stayed rather superficial。 "Greek Mythology: The Gods, Goddesses, and Heroes Handbook" is a fun introduction to the greek pantheon and some of its most important players。 The illustrations in this book are great and I liked the author's sense of humor。 The reason I'm only giving it three stars is that there were some repetitions that could have been safely left out in a book this length and that it stayed rather superficial。 。。。more

This was a very clear and entertaining overview for beginners in Greek mythology。 The art work is absolutely stunning and gave the stories an extra dimension

I don't think I have read anything about Greek Mythology since I was in high school but after coming across this eye-catching cover, I couldn't pass it up。 The illustrations inside are equally as beautiful and I could have given the book five stars for that reason alone。 However I enjoyed the book as much as the pictures。 I thought the author did a good job of organizing all of the stories and information, which I don't imagine was an easy thing to do considering many of the stories have several I don't think I have read anything about Greek Mythology since I was in high school but after coming across this eye-catching cover, I couldn't pass it up。 The illustrations inside are equally as beautiful and I could have given the book five stars for that reason alone。 However I enjoyed the book as much as the pictures。 I thought the author did a good job of organizing all of the stories and information, which I don't imagine was an easy thing to do considering many of the stories have several different versions, there are overlapping stories for many of the Greek gods and there are times when the information can be confusing。 This probably isn't the book for anyone looking for an in depth book on this subject matter but it is a good over view on the subject in general。 。。。more

This is a great introduction to Greek Mythology。 If you are just starting with your journey into the world of Myths, I would highly recommend this book。 It is written in a way that does not over complicate the stories and is divided into sections for each mentioned myth or character。 The podcast by this writer are also excellent。

A solid introduction to many of the original Greek myths with beautiful illustrations and some handy explanations that would make this a great choice for a middle reader。

For anyone looking for a humorous book detailing who certain figures are in Greek Mythology, as well as why they are notable, this is the book for you。 Albert briefly describes the most influential characters in Greek Mythology in a way that is easy-to-understand and entertaining to read。 I highly recommend this to people who are studying Greek Mythology, or people who just want to learn who is who in the wonderful world of Greek Mythology

Beautifully illustrated book about the legends of Greek mythology。 Great informational book that helped me get thru a thousand ships。

Really interesting and helpful! I read about half of it while I paired it with Fatal Attraction, a novel about Aphrodite。 I'll go back and read other bits when I read a novel about Persephone。 Really interesting and helpful! A interesting survey of Greek mythology, useful for readers unfamiliar with the subject and covering the major figures in the field。 Albert's take is more modern and frank than other Greek mythology books; she doesn't shy away from exposing the philandering and cruelty of the gods and heroes。 Recommended for those looking to explore classical mythology or looking for a fresh take on the tales。 A interesting survey of Greek mythology, useful for readers unfamiliar with the subject and covering the major figures in the field。 Albert's take is more modern and frank than other Greek mythology books; she doesn't shy away from exposing the philandering and cruelty of the gods and heroes。 Recommended for those looking to explore classical mythology or looking for a fresh take on the tales。 。。。more

As someone who is just getting into Greek mythology, this was a great, brief introduction to the major players。 I also really appreciate all of the further reading material added。 An added bonus is the book itself is beautiful and will look great on a coffee table。

As a longtime fan of the podcast, I am beyond thrilled to see this book coming to fruition! Right off the bat, it sounds like classic Liv—honest and unapologetic。That being said, I do find the use of parentheses is overused to the point where it disturbs the flow of reading。 In terms of narration, this book isn't particularly enjoyable for me。 Greek Mythology reads more like an oral story, almost like how Liv would deliver her podcast。 Personally I also feel like the content can be organised and As a longtime fan of the podcast, I am beyond thrilled to see this book coming to fruition! A good introduction to the characters of mythological Greece with some beautiful artwork by Sara Richard。 Folks who listen to Liv’s podcast will already be familiar with the way Liv makes the myths accessible without pulling any punches with regards to how problematic some (most) of them are, and this book continues in that same vein。 I would have found it a little easier to get through had there been page numbers listed alongside ‘see entry on X’ as it rather took me out of the flow when that c A good introduction to the characters of mythological Greece with some beautiful artwork by Sara Richard。 Folks who listen to Liv’s podcast will already be familiar with the way Liv makes the myths accessible without pulling any punches with regards to how problematic some (most) of them are, and this book continues in that same vein。 I would have found it a little easier to get through had there been page numbers listed alongside ‘see entry on X’ as it rather took me out of the flow when that cropped up each time and having to flick back to the list of contents was a little annoying。 Imo, the book also probably could have done without the constant references to the Disney animated Hercules and Lore Olympus etc。, but as a whole it is engaging and has Liv’s style stamped all over it。 。。。more

First of all, I LOVE the author's podcast。 The women's month interviews in March were outstanding and pride month is off to a great start。 Liv hosts with such personality and snark - I love how she takes on the literal Ivory tower snobby patriarchal BS in classics while re-telling stories I've loved for years in ways that make sense to my existence。Did this totally shine through in the book for me? Not as much, the writing was a bit drier and a bit less snarky than when she's delivering content First of all, I LOVE the author's podcast。 The women's month interviews in March were outstanding and pride month is off to a great start。 Liv hosts with such personality and snark - I love how she takes on the literal Ivory tower snobby patriarchal BS in classics while re-telling stories I've loved for years in ways that make sense to my existence。Did this totally shine through in the book for me? Not as much, the writing was a bit drier and a bit less snarky than when she's delivering content over audio。 That said the artwork is incredible and still, this is THE book for anyone new to Greek mythology。 I wish my nerdy teenage self could have had this book and I've shared it with friends who are interested in mythology。 I really hope Liv takes on another writing challenge even though I know this one was a Herculean 。。。 No fuck that 。。。 Circe building her garden paradise or Clytemnestra plotting epic revenge level effort。Anyways I wish more of the author's personality came through (this could be editorial overreach too) and I hope to see another book focused solely on Greek women。 The podcast has so many gems and topics that would make incredible books - most misunderstood goddesses/ dieties; women/goddesses scorned and what they did about it; women who survived or dealt with the biggest assholes 。。。 oops heroes 。。。 in ancient greek mythology etc etc。Long story short this one will stay in the bookshelf and is a keeper 。。。more

Thank you to NetGalley and Adams Media for kindly providing me with a digital copy of this book for review。This book is a beautifully produced piece of work that looks at Greek mythology and tries to break it down and make it more accessible to a younger audience。 It splits up the Gods into their different groups and explains their relationships to each other。 I think this is a fabulous resource for anyone interested in getting an overview of Greek mythology。 I was quite familiar with the inform Thank you to NetGalley and Adams Media for kindly providing me with a digital copy of this book for review。This book is a beautifully produced piece of work that looks at Greek mythology and tries to break it down and make it more accessible to a younger audience。 It splits up the Gods into their different groups and explains their relationships to each other。 I think this is a fabulous resource for anyone interested in getting an overview of Greek mythology。 I was quite familiar with the information myself if I’m honest, but that might be because I have an autistic son who is obsessed with myths and legends, and while Ancient Egypt is always going to be his favourite, he also likes, Greek, Nordic and Celtic mythology。 The artwork is stunning, and while I have only seen it in digital form, I imagine in hard copy it will look really impressive。 Highly recommend 。。。more

This book was a great introduction to who is who in Greek mythology。 I was hoping for meatier stories, but Liv gets deeper in her podcast Let's Talk About Myths Baby and gives a nice list for further, meatier, reading。 I got drawn in by the eye-catching art work by Sara Richard--some of these works just has me not able to look away。For someone just getting into Greek mythology this is a great place to start。 Or keep this book on hand when you need to quickly be refreshed on some one you may have This book was a great introduction to who is who in Greek mythology。 I was hoping for meatier stories, but Liv gets deeper in her podcast Let's Talk About Myths Baby and gives a nice list for further, meatier, reading。 I got drawn in by the eye-catching art work by Sara Richard--some of these works just has me not able to look away。For someone just getting into Greek mythology this is a great place to start。 Or keep this book on hand when you need to quickly be refreshed on some one you may have forgotten。I really wanted more from the stories and it started getting annoying reading "you may remember from Disney's Hercules" and "you can read about that story here" over and over and over again。 A lot of this book read like the author wasn't sure what order she was going to put the book in so she wrote as if you weren't familiar with the context at all。 。。。more

The artwork in this book is great, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're giving it to someone who only wants an extremely basic outline of Greek mythology。 The one thing I really appreciated about it was calling out Zeus for what he was - a gross serial rapist。 This does a good job of pointing out just how many of the "love stories" in Greek myth are sexual assaults, and attempts to give agency to a lot of the amazing female characters。 But it also tells extremely short stories about everyon The artwork in this book is great, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're giving it to someone who only wants an extremely basic outline of Greek mythology。 The one thing I really appreciated about it was calling out Zeus for what he was - a gross serial rapist。 This does a good job of pointing out just how many of the "love stories" in Greek myth are sexual assaults, and attempts to give agency to a lot of the amazing female characters。 But it also tells extremely short stories about everyone that don't even give all the details - if I recall correctly, the author never even MENTIONS the River Styx, for example。 Just weird omissions of basic things like that。 Additionally, nearly EVERY SINGLE ENTRY mentions Disney's Hercules (that apparently had a tv show in addition to a movie? who cares?), Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, and something called "Lore Olympus" which I've never heard of。 It's okay to mention the myths in context of pop culture because obviously they're always relevant, but this was overkill。 It felt like the book was made for fans of these specific works and it got pretty annoying。 。。。more
